Salmon Fishing

Many countries provide fishing for the Atlantic salmon. Some offer large fish and great baskets. So why choose Scotland? Scotland is the Queen of salmon fishing countries. Built on tradition and fashioned by the tides of time, Scotland is salmon. Thanks to the warm waters of the Gulf stream, Scotland’s salmon fishing begins early in the year and enjoys a long and fruitful season.

There are many famous salmon rivers in Scotland, rivers such as Tay, Tweed and Spey, to name a few, but it is in the Highlands where many fine, less well known, pearls may be found. These sometimes small and unassuming rivers and mountain streams offer excellent sport and can be fished according to your budget. To know, where when and how, is the secret for success in any venture, salmon fishing is no different, so why not let us be your guide.

Rivers are normally broken into smaller sections called beats. The beat may have the fishing from both banks, but sometimes may be share with another proprietor. Dependant on beat, fishing can be provided for up to four anglers. Most Highland rivers practice a fly only method. Recommended tackle consists of a 12’ to 15’ foot fly rod, reel and line. Shorter single handed rods may also be used. Conservation practices are now common on most rivers, with catch and release policies in place.
